The GOES-R Series Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) provides aerosol optical depth (AOD), aerosol detection, and smoke detection products at 2-kilometer resolution over the Western Hemisphere. GOES-East (GOES-16) and GOES-West (GOES-18) together provide continuous hemispheric coverage at 15-minute intervals.
GOES-R aerosol products support real-time air quality forecasting, wildfire smoke monitoring, and public health advisories. The Level-2 AOD product is assimilated into NOAA's National Air Quality Forecast Capability (NAQFC) to improve PM2.5 predictions over the contiguous United States.
